When you want to know if your SEO efforts are paying off, you need to measure your results. You’ve probably spent a considerable amount of money and time towards it, and it’s important to keep track of what’s working and what isn’t.
There are plenty of tools that you can use to track your progress, but we’re going to focus on Google Analytics today. I’m going to walk you through how you can track your SEO results with Google Analytics using tutorial videos from Google.
Here are some tips to get you started:
- Audience – Knowing your audience is important to understanding how to target and write content that is appealing to them. Through analytics, you can see who your audience is, where they are coming from, their age, and interests. You can see how many visit your website and even what other websites or platforms they are coming from like Facebook, Instagram, Mail Chimp, Yelp, Trip Advisor, etc. Over time, you can track how your website visits compared to previous months or years.
- Acquisition – People land on your website through various ways like through search engines through organic search. People also arrive at your website through referrals like social media, email marketing options, and other websites. When reviewing how people find you organically, with the Google Search Console you can even investigate what keywords people are using to find you.
- Behaviour – When noting user behavior you can see which pages or posts on your website that are receiving the most traffic. In an ideal world, the pages or posts that are most visited will be product or service pages or your pillar blog post content. If you have important pages that aren’t getting many visits, those pages are ideal for further work or optimization.
- Conversions – This is essentially the most important part of your SEO efforts. Being able to track conversions is the way to measure the ROI of any SEO work that is being carried out on your website. Through analytics, you can set up Goals and event tracking in your account. Then you can track form completions, website orders, etc.
An important part of a successful SEO plan is to understand how it is working. The best way to understand that is through Google Analytics.
